Martin White gives us a rundown from the 2008 Annual General Meeting
The AGM is over for another year, and as I type this, the minutes of the AGM are in the final stages of proof-reading before they are uploaded to the website. I’ll be posting out printed copies of them as well to everyone who asked me at the AGM. I would urge everyone to have a read of them as there’s a great deal of interesting information distributed out.
The next task to release to the membership will be that of the “Board Membership Policy”. This will be a working document that is designed to allow everyone to understand the role of Club Board and Trust Board in more detail, without having to read through the Rules of the Trust. It’s currently at around twenty pages, but we’ll also produce a shorter version that’s a couple of pages to give the main points. One thing that keeps cropping up is that there are still a few misconceptions out there as to who does what and what processes are in place. This is completely understandable and hence why this document is being created, so that once again Trust members (and non-trust members) can have a good overview of why things are done as they are.
In other news, the Trust Board is currently selecting co-opted members to be appointed to the Trust Board. This role is a key one for the Trust in that it gives people the opportunity to see how the Trust works in detail and then stand for election with a years “apprentice” service done. The role was created by Supporters Direct for all Trusts and we are by no means the only Trust to co-opt people onto the Trust Board. In some ways it’s a difficult position to fill, as there are always two camps as a result of it – those who say “It’s jobs for the boys” and those that say “I don’t know that person, I’d prefer it if I knew them”. Both view are not entirely correct. While some may not view the process as ideal, for the Trust Board it is a vital role and allows us to delegate out some of the work – and believe me there is always more work than time to do it in when it comes to the Trust!
We’ll announce the co-opted members once they have been approved at the next Trust Board meeting. The candidates that have applied so far are all quality applicants who can bring skills to the Trust Board, and they are only ever appointed for their skill sets.
