Martin White give us an update on the 2008 Trust Elections

This part of the year is always the busiest for me personally regarding Trust matters, as the Trust AGM is being held on Monday 3rd November at the Insider Suite here at Edgeley Park at 7.30pm

There is a fair bit of planning work prior to this, including of course, the essential election process. It started three months ago. I’ve said before how important I feel the elections are to the Trust, in that it gives members a chance to directly affect who is appointed to the Trust Board.

Just as important though, is that it gives us a chance to gain new people with different views and different skills, and allow us to thank existing Board members who are “retiring” for all their efforts. Make no mistake, it is a demanding and often thankless task being on the Trust Board, and as such, a high turnover of members is both needed  and expected. Especially when you consider that a lot of the work is done in conjunction with having to hold down a day job as well.

The Trust Accounts will be presented at the AGM, also the minutes of last year to be approved, plus the usual AGM details. We will also have an update on both the Trust and Club, with a Question and Answer session at the end. Minutes will be taken, they will be uploaded on the Internet site but if you don’t have internet access, please give me your address at the AGM and I’ll post printed notes to you.

The election results will be announced at the AGM, and I must add thanks to all candidates who stood this year, it made it very difficult to narrow down which five to vote for. The number of election ballots returned is just over 50% this year.

Personally, I’m disappointed with this – I feel it is a low turnout and down about 8% on last year’s ballot. I’m not sure why it’s not higher, and if you received a ballot paper but didn’t send it back in, I’d love to get the chance to find out why so we can amend the process for future AGMs. Please find me at the AGM and let me know your reasons for not voting, it’d be good feedback to obtain as we are always looking to improve the Trust for your benefit.
