George Hudson appointed to County Board
December 2006

Stockport County Supporters' Trust Vice-Chairman George Hudson has this weekend been announced as the successor to ex-Chairman and Board member Brendon Elwood. Mr Elwood stepped down from his position on the board recently and long-time County fan and hard working Vice-Chairman George was invited to take the role.

For those who don't know George, here are some details:

Name: George Hudson
Age: 40

Business Background:

George works in business relationship and delivery areas of the IT outsourcing industry.

Fan background:

I started supporting County in the late 80s just as things started to become good and thoroughly enjoyed the 90s just like everyone else.

My favourite memory of County was the celebration with my Dad after Preecey's goal against QPR at home F.A. Cup. Stood on a packed Railway End, he had calmly predicted a County victory, which to me spelt absolute certain disaster as he was never right in any of his predictions.

Then Wardy chipped-in a free kick, Preecey latched onto it, the Railway End went crazy, and I owed my Dad for ever doubting him. In fact, he did the same against Lincoln the other week when I feared the worst beforehand. That's twice in twelve years now - he's on a roll!

My general County memory from my very first game onwards has been the warmth and humour of the fans, along with the sense that the players had a passion for the club. That was, and still is, a facet of County hidden from the greater Stockport public.

Trust background:

I joined the Trust once the initial interest it had generated had slipped away and it wasn't really anything at all.

Well, I had thought that it wasn't anything, but what I found within the Trust Board was a surprisingly good spread of skills and sense of team to match the obvious passion. We did all the preparation work we could, just in case one day the unthinkable happened.

Of course, it is history that we were called upon and, having just combined notes with a Hearts fan sat next to me, I think we have actually done quite well - so far.

I say 'so far' as the Trust's running of the Club will always be judged on its last mistake, not its successes. We understand that, and we will just have to make sure we avoid mistakes. We only do it for the good of the club anyway so to see the Club doing well is reward enough.

Elevation to SCFC Board Director:

I'm not one for the limelight. I prefer to make a difference by being a 'do-er', even if not everything I do works - which reasonably is always going to be the case.

To now be invited onto the SCFC Board, and to be replacing Brendan Elwood who brought us so much success is both an honour and daunting. The benchmark has been set, and I hope I get a little of the 'magic touch' that Brendan had for so long.

In the past twelve months we have shaped the SCFC Board so that we were actually in charge of the Club we owned, and we have brought much needed stability by doing just that.

Now I see the SCFC Board as a body that will make more of a positive difference to both the strategy and the operation of County, and I will be giving, as ever, my best efforts to help County step up to another level.
