Stockport County Supporters Trust
"One day all football clubs will wish they were like Stockport County"
Long Time, No Speak
August 2005

First of all, may we say a heartfelt THANK YOU to all those people who have offered help to us, whether that be leg-work, time, advice, brain-power, and the rest.

We have contacted a fair few of you for pieces of work and every time you have stepped up to the mark.

Those of you who we have not yet contacted remain on our list and are not forgotten by any means!

We'll attempt here to give a very brief overview of what we have been doing and what we are planning to do.

It has always been our intention not to walk into Stockport County and change things on day one. Best advice and practice has indicated that we should first of all take half a step back and understand the nature of the business and make assessments before suggesting changes via the SCFC Board.

The newly appointed Stockport County Directors have, bar one or two items that required immediate attention, stuck with that principle and as a result we are nearing completion of a 'manifesto' document setting out how we believe our club should be run. A guide-book for the Board of Stockport County AFC.

The manifesto will be published to members on completion.

A question we have grappled with during this period is the one of governance - what is the relationship between Trust Members (top of the tree in terms of ownership), the Trust Board, the Stockport County Board, and the CEO of Stockport County who is ultimately the person charged with delivery.

Governance is a huge, huge subject. There are myriad 'what ifs' and, with the help of some members, we have dissected most of them in minute detail!

The main sticking point with governance is striking the balance between Utopia (all us members voting on what coffee beans are used in the half-time brew) and something pragmatic which will not suffocate the business of Stockport County.

This is another document nearing completion which will, of course, be published to members.

Shortly after the takeover, the CEO went on holiday and there were friendlies, the Family Lounge (try it from 1.30pm before a match - it is already good and it is going to get better and better - your child will love it and you can relax with a pint whilst the children play) the open day and the first game of the season to help arrange.

Some of the above created their own questions (all for us to pose to the CEO) the greatest of which has been ticketing - there were more ticket office windows open than ever against Notts County and the situation is being monitored.

All of the above has taken an awful lot of time and effort. We don't seek or expect thanks, and it doesn't sit well with us anyway - we just mention it to give any potential Trust Board members a little insight. (Some of us did sneak of for holidays as well.)

And we know we can, must and will communicate better!
