Self-made multi-millionaire Brooks Mileson has accepted an invitation to become Honorary Vice-President of Stockport County Football Club when the Supporters Trust completes its takeover.
Mileson, who made his fortune in insurance, has been a long term supporter of the County Trust and has always supported lower league football in England and Scotland.
Trust Chairman Norman Beverley said: “We are delighted that Brooks Mileson has accepted our offer to become Honorary Vice-President, because he has been a long term mentor and specialist advisor to the Trust Board throughout our negotiations to take over Stockport County.
“For a considerable time he has been giving us his guidance and advice together with his unqualified support behind the scenes in our dealings with current owner Brian Kennedy. Now we want to give him the praise and recognition he deserves.
“Like Brian, Brooks Mileson believes that the Trust is the only suitable alternative to take the club forward.”
Brooks Mileson said: “I am delighted to accept this offer, because I have been very impressed with the professionalism of the Stockport County Supporters Trust and with their vision and planning for a community club.”
The takeover deal is due to be completed this week, although it has currently stalled as Cheshire Sports, to date, have been unable to gain the required sanction of former club chairman Brendan Elwood, which is mandatory for the deal to proceed.
Additional information
Brooks Mileson currently lives in Carlisle and is President of Whitby Football Club and Vice-President of Workington FC. His holding company sponsors the Northern League, but as well as being a football philanthropist, he also funds a number of animal sanctuaries.
Brooks is the controlling shareholder at Gretna Football Club and has made significant donations to the Carlisle United Supporters Trust, as well as the Trusts at Berwick Rangers and Dundee United. All of these Trusts have testified to the fact that these donations were made with nothing asked in return.
